THREE weeks until I’m officially done with this semester and able to fly home and I can’t wait. I’m so excited and tempted to pull out my suitcase and start packing but I told myself I’d wait until at least December to do so. Also, midterms are finally done and out of the way, and we’ve just finished with the last batch of research participants down at my lab, so things are finally starting to feel a little like the end of the semester! And now, to the blog – here’s how November looked-

November on the blog

  • I reviewed Scarlet by Marissa Meyer with unamused Benedict Cumberbatch gifs, which basically sums up my reading experience.
  • Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was… marginally better… but I still kind of wanted to punt some of the characters off the edge of a cliff.
  • I switched things up a little and posted an ongoing list of amazing Asian drama! 10/10 would highly recommend watching them when you get the chance^^
  • As You Wish by Chelsea Sedoti was another disappointing read, to put it lightly.

Out and about

/Insert inhoherent screaming and tearful rambling here because I JUST RECEIVED TO KILL A KINGDOM BY ALEXANDRA CHRISTO and not going to like the tentacles on the cover look hella weird bUT IM STILL EXCITED ASDFJDLKGDSF/

In the realm of beauty products… I’ve gone through and tried out most of the new products in my stash, so there really isn’t much to say anymore. I did finally open the TonyMoly Panda’s Dream White Hand Cream. I love the packaging! It’s super cute, and as for the inside – the formula smells amazing, and while I don’t see any of the effects people are raving about online, it’s true that it isn’t too oily, and absorbs nicely into your skin. It’s rather meh, though, packaging aside. I also tried TonyMoly’s shiny foot moisture cream with similar results, cute packaging aside. It’s decent and does the job, but doesn’t go above and beyond, and isn’t worth raving about.

I was so, so tempted to splurge on Black Friday, but bills are kind of tight this month (@NYC what’s up) – which, speaking of, because of this I’m going to put up a ton of the books I have for sale, so if you’re interested, please keep an eye out on my twitter! Aughhhh there were so many eye-catching sales though! Did you guys get anything? Let me know so I can live vicariously through you, heheh.

All that aside, this entire month’s mostly been an endless cycle of eat, sleep, school. I wish I could post about more interesting things, but unfortunately, the most noteworthy thing I’ve done was accidentally burn the skin off my pinky and dye half of my left hand purple (which is a more common occurrence in our lab than you’d think, ahah). Next month, though! I’ll be heading back home and getting to eat all that good food and catching up with my friends, so there’ll be things to ramble about then. I can’t wait <3

October on the playlist

So there we have it! My November in a nutshell. And now, onto you – how was your month? How was your Thanksgiving, if you celebrated it? (Or rather, how did you celebrate it? I’ve never done so, and I’m curious!)

Another month – done! We’re inching closer and closer to winter break! I’m booking tickets home tonight, and I’m ridiculously excited. I hate riding airplanes, but if it means heading home for the holidays… YES PLEASE! But I’m getting a little ahead of myself. So. Today on the blog: the month that was October!

October on the blog

  • I read and loved The False Prince!
  • THERE IS A THREE INGREDIENT BOBA RECIPE and you can find it riiight here.
  • Death Sworn was also a really nice read! Right up my alley 🙂
  • The Book Thief was a good read? Quiet and lovely, but definitely not all I was hoping for.
  • On the other hand, I didn’t know what to expect with The Reader and it turned out to be a really fun read!
  • My good-reads streak was broken by the “meh” This Song Will Safe Your Life…
  • And The Bone Season

Out and about

I’ve safely survived my first lab evaluation, handed in a major translating project, and just finished my first batch of midterms, and I’m honestly terrified because my bio scores come out in two days (or, two days at the time of writing up this post), and I have absolutely no idea how it went – I did manage to answer every single question in detail, but I might’ve done them all wrong? It’s happened before ><;; (thank god for ochem’s otherwise depressingly low averages, ahah).

But, a different subject! I got around to trying the Mediheal Acai facemask I was talking about in my last month’s wrap-up! It smelled lovely, but I’ll be honest: I’ve tried masks from Mediheal, Tonymoly, and Innisfree, and the way they feel on my skin and the results they produce appear just about the same. I still have quite a few masks to go through, but next time I’m buying, I really think I might just go for the cheapest options, in this case. Does anyone have any recs, maybe?

I’ve also been expanding items on my menu list! I’ve been telling myself that I should make dumplings – they’re a bit time-consuming, but once they’re done, I can throw them in the fridge and the batch’ll probably last me a week or two, right? But I’m super lazy to attempt it… I have finally lugged a bag of rice back to my apartment, and I finally got around to buying proper cooking utensils, so I’ve been making things like Korean pancakes and pasta and omelets and stir-fried noodles, though! So that’s a step? I’m still averaging just one big meal and one little meal per day, but at least my mom’s not convinced I’m going to die of hunger anymore…^^;;;

  • 여자친구(GFRIEND) – 시간을 달려서(Rough)
  • 여자친구(GFRIEND) – 너 그리고 나
  • 여자친구 GFRIEND – 오늘부터 우리는
  • GFRIEND(여자친구) _ LOVE WHISPER(귀를 기울이면) (so, I got really into a certain group this month…)

So there we have it! My October in a nutshell. And now, onto you – how was your month? The good, the bad – let me know! There’s only two months left of the year – we can do this!!

Aaaand that’s a wrap on September! September was a pretty hectic month- mostly because of uni. I spent the first few weeks settling in, and I’m finally starting to get the hang of things. Though I really miss living in a school dorm, having your own apartment’s pretty nice, too. The only downside is that there’s no laundry room, and the nearest laundromat… is two blocks away… BUT ANYHOW. Today on the blog: the month that was September.

September on the blog

  • The Young Elites was another great read by Marie Lu!
  • I wasn’t at all wowed by Kirsten Miller’s How to Lead a Life of Crime, though.
  • Claire LaZebnik’s books are all super cute, but I definitely preferred Epic Fail to The Last Best Kiss.
  • Disappointingly too, The Fill-In Boyfriend marks 2/2 Kasie West books I’ve tried and didn’t quite enjoy as much as everyone else seems to have.
  • BUT on the other hand, Foreplay by Sophie Jordan read as a nice surprise!
  • Aaaand wowwow Goodbye Rebel Blue.
  • And, more reviews for the cursory reader: All the Bright Places, Live Through This, and The Boy Most Likely To.
  • …next month, I’ll definitely include more features/food/rambling posts! I’ve made huge progress with my reviewing list, but it’s definitely time to throw some variety and change things up a bit on the blog. Stay tuned!

Out and about

Lolol my current class list is death in schedule form. It hasn’t even been a full month yet and I’m basically dragging myself through the week. But I’m going to try hard! My GPA wasn’t exactly the best last year, and I know I can do better – I’ll try my best!

Also, my friend bought me this super cute corgie plush doll from ThousandSkies! It’s huge – I think she got me the large one, which is a little over one third of my body? It’s so squishy and cute… and squishy… and cute… Ironically, my vocabulary seems to have exponentially decreased since coming to the states? BUT. THE POINT. THE CORGI. It feels amazing to hug and made my room a little less lonely, and honestly I’m way too excited about this gift but I’ve already talked my friend’s ear off and I’ve got no one else to share the joys of an oversized plush doll with, so here we are^^;;;

I feel like I always do a little corner on beauty products, so here it is: I’ve been semi-pampering myself at night while chugging through my textbooks with facemasks. My aunt likes using the one-night-use kinds, and she bought enough to fill this huge cardboard box at her place. When she came over to visit during the summer, she brought us some of the ones she liked as a gift, and my mom packed them all in my luggage for me to take to New York. I didn’t know and unearthed them two weeks or so again when I (finally, heheh) finished unpacking all my stuff – and I’ll admit I teared up a little. I’m homesick as fuck already. So far, I’ve tried masks from 我的美日日記, Innisfree (real squeeze), and Tony Moly (I’m real). The ones from 我的美日日記 are on a thicker fabric, which I guess is better than too flimsy, but it’s a little too thick? The bottom parts flap up off my chin often, and I feel like while the eye, nose, and mouth holes fit my face, the thickness of the mask material makes it hard to actually settle on my skin. The essence is a little sticker, too – I can usually feel residue on my face the next day when I wash my face in the morning. In comparison, I think I prefer the ones from Innisfree and Tony Moly which while, frankly, are a little hard to tell apart, are easy to use and make my skin feel wonderfully hydrated and smooth the next day! While the different fruit, tea, and herb masks don’t quite seem to procure drastically different results, they definitely show results. Next up, I want to give Beauty Clinic Mediheal – Acaiberry Ade Mask a try – check back (probably on my next wrap up, judging by the speed of things on this blog, ahh…) for updates on that, as well as on the Skinfood Rice Mask Wash-Off!

//Cue obligatory uni student panic about… resumes??? cover letters??? interviews??????// falls into a heap and rolls away

So there we have it! My September. And now, onto you – how was your month? The good, the bad – let me know! Let’s make it through the rest of this year together:)

August is almost over ;__; Pretty soon I’ll be heading back to uni, and I’m all sorts of nervous and terrified. I’m transferring schools this year, and even though the new location’s pretty exciting (nyc!!), I’m still very much on my own, and very far from home… Ahhhhh. In any case, now that I’ve finally re-introduced life and substance and mostly-on-time posts to the blog again (and set up a working schedule of blog posts for September! whee!), it’s time to bring back those monthly wrap-ups! Today on the blog: the lazy month that was August.

August on the blog

  • Daughter of Smoke and Bone… didn’t quite do the trick for me? I still couldn’t resist getting Strange the Dreamer (the hardcover’s so pretty *o*), though, so we’ll see how that goes!
  • For the cursory readers: bite-sized reviews of A Madness so Discreet, All the Truth that’s in Me, A Midsummer’s Nightmare, and Isla and the Happily Ever After
  • My reaction to The Night Circus was also similar to that of DoSaB… /sighs/
  • but Fangirl brought a fuzzy, pleasant surprise^^

Out and about

Summer vacation is a beautiful glorious thing and honestly, I spent most of it lazing around my house. And then stuffing myself full with my friends. And then panicking and shuffling through all that translation work at 9 pm orz.

If anyone remembers that beauty product haul I mentioned on Twitter towards the start of the month, I got to try out all those products, and have to say I’m pretty satisfied 😀 (also shoutout to stylekorean for the excessive amounts of bubble wrap I now have). My favorite of this order was the Camelia Essential Hair Mist from Innisfree – it smells so nice, and really does wonders with hair texture. I also love the fruity, easy-to-apply Play 101 Stick Primer from Etude House, which also smelled really nice. I also got their 10 in 1 Wonder Pore Freshner, but while it was a really nice moisturizer, I found that it really didn’t do anything else? It’s apparently supposed to be a 10-in-1 solution for deep cleansing, sebum control, pH 4.5 care, tightening pores, clear skin, elasticity, moisturizing, etc. And I was pretty skeptical (that’s a lot of promises…) but I heard great things about it. So I bought it. And… yeah… nope. I had similarly disappointing results (read: none) with the AprilSkin Pink Clay Nose Pack, which did absolutely nothing and actually kind of stung when applied on my skin. I also got the Skinny Waterproof Microcara and Whitening Pore Sleeping Pack from Innisfree (there was a sale and I was weak ._.). The former was pretty average – my eyelashes are on the longish and numerous side, but each individual hair’s pretty thin, and they tangled pretty easily with the applicator, which was a pain – but I’m really happy with the latter! It’s something I’d save for use in the winter, and it’s super hydrating and does show signs of brightening and evening skin tone. Plus, it smells fruity and clean, which is always a nice thing^^

My mom also accidentally ordered too many packs of tapioca starch (she wanted one and got ten… lol) so I made a huge potful of boba! It’s a little telling about how uneventful my month was, but that pot? One of the highlights of my month 😀 It’s actually pretty easy to make, and I was thinking of posting a recipe for it soon – all you need is three ingredients and some patience – and I really like drinking it with milk. Brings back all sorts of nostalgia.

Oooh and! I’ve just opened up a bookish instagram aerouu, so if anyone’s interested, I’d love if you could stop by! My photography and placing(?? what’s the word for it, ahah) skills aren’t anywhere near top-notch, but it seems like a lot of fun.

August on the playlist

  • 西野カナ 『パッ』
  • Rita Ora – Your Song
  • RADWIMPS 「君と羊と青」

So anyhow! Uneventful as it was, that was my August! What about you? How was yours? And for anyone heading back to school in the coming weeks: good luck! You got this <3
